The increasing infection rate of the COVID-19 virus in Kern County has forced all schools to remain closed until the situation improves.  After careful consideration and review of feedback from parents, teachers, and community partners, the Wasco Union Elementary School District has concluded that the school year should begin with students engaged in 100% distance learning through the first quarter.

This year, instruction will begin online on Monday, August 10, 2020, utilizing district technology for all students in grades 1-8.  Students in grades TK and Kindergarten will participate in their learning using traditional paper and pencil instructional packets with online support lessons available from teachers.

This summer, all teachers are participating in training to support your child using online instructional tools that were not available in the spring to increase interactions and instructional support for students.

All students are required to participate in online or paper-based instruction to receive a grades and attendance credit for the quarter.

Your child’s school will be in touch with you shortly with additional information regarding the upcoming school year, including classroom placement, and a date and time for technology and instructional materials pickup.

If possible, after the first quarter, the district will return to in-person instruction depending on the Kern County Public Health Department's recommendation and state requirements imposed at that time.

School offices are now open for student registration by appointment.  Please note that all district facilities require facemasks, and visitors should be prepared to have their temperature taken and participate in a health-screening questionnaire upon arrival.

We will keep you informed as the situation develops.
